This price increase by Pond5 is hurting my sales

Just pay me $5 a month and I will help you publish your clips on China‘s material platforms for sale. China now has a huge demand for foreign video clips.

To Rekindle Photo,
"I've been with P5 and SS before either one had a total of a thousand clips. I do not believe you will sell 4 $59 clips before selling 4K at $149."
With all due respect, I have 108 videos that are 4K, which I have posted since sometime last year. I have yet to sell even one of these videos, even in HD (79.90 for 4K, and 59.90 in HD)! I have sold several of my older clips at $59.90, however, before the price increase. Not one sale since! Maybe the price increase scared off some buyers?

To Archfoto with all respect.
You came to the party far too late. With 108 4K and 1,100 total videos how in the world do you expect to be found in a P5 portfolio of 30 Million clips?

Many of the first submitters five to ten years ago were making $4-8K a month at P5. When the big discounts started as well as lower pricing by new artists, These early submitters are now at $500 - 1,500 a month. This happened long before your drop in sales.

Yes my sales last month is 15% of what it was ten years ago with thousands of additional clips.

To Rekindle Photo,
I have a lot of respect for anyone who has as many videos as you have posted. It is a lot of work, keywording, describing, and getting the videos approved. I was (and still am) a commercial stills photographer, and I have seen the same thing happen since the barriers to entry (like cost of equipment) have fallen and anyone can produce stills or video for free, with cameras that make all the adjustments.

I had a friend, in the days of film, who made $51K, in one year, with stock film photography. Now, microstock has ruined that business model, entirely. I made way more in commercial photography shooting a 4X5 film camera, doing architecture for clients (an example of cost and expertise barrier to entry).

Well, Pond5 has instituted its newest rules as permanent. Now, the prospects are: Stay exclusive, and will any of my portfolio sell at $149, or sell some volume at $39, by going non-exclusive, and lowering the percentage I receive for each video? I still sold several videos at the old pricing structure. I have yet to sell one video since the price change. Another factor is that every time someone buys that video, it is royalty free, so they can use it over and over and never have to spend on it again. Whatever happened to rights-managed content?
Maybe we contributors need a co-op web portal of our own, where we can again determine our own pricing?

In the last ten years there has been a dozen new agencies start. They all failed. The biggest competition for footage is between P5 and SS. One other. New low income country photogs started to shoot at ridiculously low prices. If they could make $10 a day they are well into the middle class. It was photogs not competition who started the race to the bottom. When the three (possibly four) footage agencies finally all got yens of millions of footage they were then able to drop prices because of volume. It works to a limited level for agencies but was disastrous to individual photogs.

My best high priced photo about seven years ago sold for $34,500.00. It was five exclusive. That day is long gone. I do like rights managed. YouTube buyers have helped kill the industry by crying poverty. Many are making tens and hundreds of thousands using our footage. Those who think they can are sold our work for pennies and still use it for thousands to millions of views. Rights managed based on views is a great model if the agencies are willing to monitor useage.

Well, miracle of miracles, an industrial clip of mine just sold at the $149 price point! Keeping fingers crossed.

Great to be getting high priced sales finally (again). P5 mother ship, SS is killing me and I suspect everyone with hard to obtain footage selling for a dollar or two. Bad business for individual Photogs.

Thank You P5 for raising prices. Great move. Now if momma SS will stop selling footage for a couple dollars and follow suit.

I'm disappointed with Pond5's recent price increase. As an exclusive seller, I only received 30% from a single clip sale last month, which feels unsatisfactory given the new changes. Stupid move!!
