Internal HDD for Mac Pro

Hi all,
A short question to Mac users: Is there a particularly recommendable internal HDD drive for the Mac Pro, or could I just pick every 7200 rpm drive from a brand like WD or Seagate?
I have recently purchased the computer (Intel Mac Pro Nehalem). As I did the RAM upgrade to 6 GB and these things get a bit expensive in South America, I have dropped the 2nd internal drive. But I think I should install one asap in order to avoid screwing up the main drive too early with all the video stuff.
Many thanks!
Stefan

Can't really recommend a particular brand of drive but would highly recommend at minimum, another drive to store your media on. To have your application and the media on the same drive is very hard on the system.
I run a Mac Pro with 4tb of drive space and another 2.5 tb external for critical media and project backup.
Cheers,
Will

Yes I think the same. Having the applications separated from the video files is very important. In fact, getting at least one other internal drive was never in doubt. Just didn´t want to buy it right away from Apple because I guess that I´ll need to replace it periodically. Tomorrow I´ll stop by at the store to buy a firewire adapter and ask if they can recommend a particular non Apple HDD. If not, I´ll get one from WD which worked fine with the PC.
Other than that, I´ll store the entire HDV captures on external drives when I am done with them and the most important clips on additional DVDs. As long as I stay with the tape recording and do only stock, I think that´s enough for the moment.
Cheers,
Stefan

I got a seagate 1.5 TB (7200rpm) a while back, but there were posts about it not playing well with the Mac. It seems the drive would just hangup, and give you the beachball of death. Seagate released a firmware update for the drive, but it was a real hassle to get the file. You actually had to send seagate you drives serial number, and then they would later send a link to let you download the firmware. And I will say their customer service was less than stellar. I have updated the drive with the firmware, and so far knock on wood, I have not had any issues.
I would probably check a few mac forums to see what they reccommend.

Thanks for your informations Scott!
Meanwhile I got the drive already. I went with the WD Caviar Black 1001FALS model (1TB, 7200 rpm, 32 MB, 3 GB/s). I put it into bay 2 and I am using it now since a couple of hours, so can´t say much. So far it works well. As long as it´s idle, the Mac is as silent as it was before (at least I would need a second computer to compare side by side). When it´s working (copying, encoding) it´s rumbling a bit but that doesn´t disturb at all. If I put some headphones on with silent music I still don´t hear anything. If there are any important changes in its functioning any time soon I´ll let you know here.
Good luck with the Seagate!
Cheers,
Stefan
