Hi everybody,
I wonder does PRORES sells better than H264 for example? Or encoding to PhotoJPEG can increase sell? What is your experience in that matter? What codec is best to encode for selling footage on Pond5? I just wonder if it does matter what codec was used in a footage which is being sold...

I'm sure that some buyers would rather have ProRes footage instead of MPEG4 footage, all other things equal. Unfortunately, that leads to some uploaders here (and at other stock sites) converting their MPEG4 footage to ProRes for upload. It's gaming the system, but there's nothing to prevent you from doing it. If you have the upload bandwidth to upload 5GB files instead of 500MB files and the time to run your files through conversion software, you might get a couple extra sales that way.
All my files are MPEG4, so I don't have any personal experience. But I did read here in the forums where one guy said he converts his files to ProRes for upload.

@Valdi Check out artist report page 'best this week' a clip of the moon and clouds sold for $500 mp4 average bitrate 42.1 i rest my case. The buyer wanted that clip, needed that clip and paid good money for it!

Thank you guys for your thoughts. On 'best of a week' (or month) I can see quite many clips with extremely high bitrate (mostly ProRes). But that would clog up my upload bandwidth easily!
