The Coqui is a frog native to Puerto Rico. With over 16 different Coqui species that live in the island of Puerto Rico, 13 of which live in the Caribbean National Forest. This species is name for the loud sound(sometimes reaching as high as 100 decibels at a distance of 0.5 meters) the males make at night. The male and female Coqui measure approximately 1 inch and 1.4 inches. The color of the Coqui varies from green, brown and yellowish. The common Coqui is a general nocturnal predator which can consume, as a population, 114,000 invertebrates each night. Juveniles consume smaller insects such as ants while adults consume spiders, moths, crickets, snails and small frogs. Coqui's are beautiful creatures from Puerto Rico natural environment and they begin to sing when the sun goes down at dusk, singing all night long until dawn.
