Description:
LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND (APRIL 2, 2015) (REUTERS) IRAN'S FOREIGN MINISTER, MOHAMMAD JAVAD ZARIF, WALKING WITH IRANIAN OFFICIALS ALONG LAKE GENEVA (SOUNDBITE) (English) IRAN'S FOREIGN MINISTER, MOHAMMAD JAVAD ZARIF, SAYING: "Well I'm hoping to be able to fly out tonight, maybe later. (Be careful! Be careful!) It may be late tonight but we're all hoping to finish this before the end of the day. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "Just a statement or an agreement?") The agreement is supposed to come on June 30th, if we are all working well and very lucky. So what we expect today is a statement and the fact that we have all reached common understanding on how to resolve the issues. But the agreement, a written agreement is something that needs to be drafted by all participants and agreed upon in a multi-lateral process and that would take hopefully three months to finalise and hopefully less. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "But have you reached understandings on all of the issues?") That's what we think we have but nothing is agreed until everything is agreed. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "Will the statement have concrete facts or figures and numbers in it?") The statement has not been written yet. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "Minister Zarif do you think it can be done even by June Sir?") Well I certainly believe that it can be done otherwise I wouldn't be wasting my time. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "You said yesterday that you wanted the P5+1 to engage with respect, do you feel better that they are doing that?") I believe respect is something that needs to be exercised in practice and in deeds and I hope that everybody is engaging in that in mutual respect. We have developed personal respect in the process, we have a very serious problem of confidence, mutual lack of confidence, which we need to address and we hope that this process will remedy some of that. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "Are they all on the same page now? You said yesterday you saw some divisions.") Well, no I'm not trying to divide anybody, all of us clearly have national positions and I believe that is true for members of P5+1, that wouldn't be breaking any secrets that P5+1 have national positions. It is in my interest that they work as a group not as individual countries because I'd rather negotiate, particularly when we get to the difficult part of negotiating the final text, hopefully in the next three months or less, to negotiate with one unified body rather than to negotiate with seven different. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "Is Congress the elephant in the room?") For some. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "Is it good enough to get the banking, financial and oil sanctions off if the UN sanctions remain, would that be good for...?") Well I cannot talk about what will remain and what will go. I have said very clearly that all sanctions need to be terminated and I believe that will be the final outcome when we get to that. But I am not going to prejudge the outcome of negotiations. (JOURNALIST ASKING: "The timing?") No, don't put words in my mouth, we are going to discuss how this is done. I didn't say timing, I didn't say whether anything will stay, what I said was, and it will be very clear once this issue is resolved. From Iranian point of view, sanctions must all go."
