(U3) AS SAYLIYAH, QATAR (APRIL 9, 2003)(REUTERS) WIDE OF GROUP CAPTAIN AND CHIEF SPOKESMAN FOR THE BRITISH FORCES AT CENTRAL COMMAND FORWARD HEADQUARTERS, AL LOCKWOOD, GIVING AN INTERVIEW; CLOSE UP OF CAMERAMAN (2 SHOTS) SCU: SOUNDBITE (English) LOCKWOOD, SAYING: "Yes there has been some consolidation overnight but obviously yes, because of the policy we have we only bomb military targets. And the battle has changed somewhat in Baghdad now to very much close engagement with those forces opposing us rather than going after the regime targets and the larger military targets, most of which we now control." WIDE OF LOCKWOOD GIVING INTERVIEW NEXT TO BRITISH FORCES SPOKESWOMAN SCU: SOUNDBITE (English) LOCKWOOD, SAYING "In pockets, I believe there is organised force. Exactly how it is being organised we will ascertain in time but a lot of it appears to be local initiative, local commanders organising the troops that they have available to make a concerted attack. There was one yesterday and it was defeated." SV MEDIA CENTRE SIGN AND SIGNPOST FOR U.S CITIES SCU: SOUNDBITE (English) LOCKWOOD, TALKING ABOUT THE ATTEMPTED ATTACK ON THE IRAQI PRESIDENT SADDAM HUSSEIN, SAYING "We are still searching for evidence, of whether he did survive or not. Apart from that I really have no further information. The intelligence sources that were gained before the attack show that he did go into the building, but as far as we are concerned we will wait until we have positive identification before we make any further statements on it." CU CENTRAL COMMAND SHIELD SCU: SOUNDBITE (English) LOCKWOOD, TALKING ABOUT THE LOOTING IN BASRA SAYING "It can appear on a television screen to be worse than it actually is. The incidents tend to be isolated, there is not a lot of violence associated with them. It mainly, it seems to be that the local people of Basra under twenty five years of Saddam Hussein's rule are taking back what they think they are owed." SCU HUMVEE WITH LOCKWOOD AND PRESS IN BACKGROUND; MV SECURITY (2 SHOTS) SCU: SOUNDBITE (English) NAVY CAPTAIN AND MEDIA CHIEF AT CENTRAL COMMAND FORWARD, FRANK THORP SAYING "Well I definitely wouldn't say it's been a quiet night. As Coalition forces continue to move around the city of Baghdad as well as inside the city of Baghdad. Throughout the night we had several running firefights on the bridges of Baghdad as well as continued to enforce our supply lines to those troops of the Fifth Corps inside the city." WIDE OF SATELLITE DISHES SCU: SOUNDBITE (English) THORP SAYING "We are still seeing resistance, sporadic resistance, but when we see it it's fierce. The Iraqi forces are unable to fight as an organised fighting force so what we are seeing are brief fire fights, sometimes fierce in which Iraqi forces are confronting us at times, at times coalition forces are confronting them. The fire fights last for a short period of time, again fierce when they are happening, in each of the cases we continue to destroy the enemy." SCU: CAMERA OPERATOR SCU: SOUNDBITE (English) THORP SAYING "I think it is premature to talk about the end of this operation yet. There may be many more fierce fighting days in front of us as coalition forces continue to move within Baghdad and around the country." WIDE: MEDIA CENTRE SIGN
