If Bush stays in, the rumour has it that we are probably going to be packing up and shipping out of here soon and staying in Iraq a little bit longer, but if Kerry gets in, the rumour has it that he will be switching control over to the UN and so that will mean less of a tour for us in Iraq." 17. We were told it was going to be shut down when the guys came back from Iraq and nothing happened. So, we don't know what kind of impact that would even have. We are kind of left in the dark as far as the election is concerned. We vote, we don't know what's going to happen to us." 23. VOLKMAR PEES, MAYOR OF THE BAUMHOLDER MUNICIPALITY AT HIS DESK 24. (SOUNDBITE) (German) VOLKMAR PEES, MAYOR OF THE BAUMHOLDER MUNICIPALITY, SAYING: "There are the economic consequences, which would be catastrophic, of course. But there are also the social consequences: the Americans have been here in Baumholder about 50 years, and we have all lived together during that time. It has helped for the tolerance between the people. I am most afraid of those consequences. Regarding the economic problems, we do have a contingency plan, developed about 15 years ago, and we are already restructuring our economy and infrastructure with the help of the state government, too. But a total withdrawal - worst case - that would be most catastrophic, that is clear." 25. CAR SALE LOT 26. WIDE OF BAUMHOLDER TOWN Initials Script is copyright Reuters Limited. All rights reserved
