Description:
A camp of refugee originated from the village around the Fukushima nuclear plant.
This camp is set up in the Saitama super Arena, in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
The people living 20km around the power plant had to evacuate due to high radiations after the 4 reactors of the plant were hugely impacted by the march 11 tsunami.
In this camp, thousand of people are living on the help of people of Saitama. Most of them left with nothing, so they spend ther day hunting for clothes or food, or trying to spend the time with the kids. Many of these people were working at the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant, in the towns of Okuma and Futaba in the Futaba District.
The plant suffered major damage from the 9.0 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on 11 March 2011, disabling the reactor cooling systems, leading to nuclear radiation leaks and triggering a 20 km evacuation zone surrounding the plant, and is not expected to reopen.
