It is a Doric building located in the Ancient Agora of Athens, on top of the Agoraios Kolonos hill. Hephaestus was the patron god of metal working and craftsmanship. Construction started in 449 BCE. Around 700 CE, the temple was turned into a Christian church, dedicated to Saint George. Latter the building was used as a museum until 1934 then converted as a historical and ancient monument.
