Description:
Kelok 9 is literally means “9 bend”, or “nine twist”. It is referring to a mountain road in the massive and famous mountain range that spans along Sumatra island from north to south, that is Bukit Barisan.

The road was built 100 years ago and is somewhat legendary. The steep slope, sharp bends challenged every drivers, especially trucks and buses. Accidents was not uncommon untill Indonesian government built a new mountain pass over the old one a few years ago. Now it is no longer scary, instead it becomes one of the most beautiful mountain pass in Sumatra and Indonesia and people could take the time to stop and enjoy the magnificent scenery. The road connects two provinces: West Sumatra and Riau and very vital to their economy.
