Description

Description:
The Bosnian War was an international armed conflict that took place between April 1992 and December 1995. The war came about as a result of the breakup of Yugoslavia. It was principally a territorial conflict, initially between the Serb forces mostly organized in the VRS on the one side, and the multiethnic ARBiH which was largely though not exclusively composed of Bosniaks, and the Croat forces in the HVO on the other side.
Intervention of UN: The UN Protection Force, was the first United Nations peacekeeping force. The Implementation Force was a NATO-led multinational force in BiH under a one-year mandate from Dec. 1995 to Dec. 1996. It relieved the peacekeeping force UNPROFOR. SFOR was authorised to implement the military aspects of the Peace Agreement as the legal successor to IFOR. The role of SFOR was to stabilise the peace. EUFOR Althea is a military deployment in BiH to oversee the military implementation of the Dayton Agreement. It is the successor to SFOR and IFOR.
