BERLIN, GERMANY (NOVEMBER 22, 2018) (REUTERS) GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL SPEAKING AT GERMAN EMPLOYERS' CONGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL, SAYING: "We already see the trade conflict between the U.S. and China causing uncertainties for German suppliers etc. And we do everything we can do to protect the open order (of trade) and make it practicable." MERKEL SPEAKING, SEEN ON BIG SCREEN (SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL, SAYING: "Sometimes it is a bit cumbersome that Jean-Claude Juncker and the (European) Commission handle all the trade issues for us, because all 28, in the future 27 members, have to give them their mandate. But it also leads to us being protected. Because it is always about all of Europe. And that has been very important in the trade talks with the U.S., at least in the last couple of months." MERKEL SPEAKING (SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL, SAYING: "At the same time we said, being a large economy, an economy with a surplus of goods, we want to have also bilateral talks with the U.S. and want to make sure, especially for U.S. midsize companies that we are a country with open markets. No one who wants to export us will be rejected." AUDIENCE APPLAUDING
