Description:
Østre Fredrikstad Church, The Old Town
The first church in The Old Town was built in the 1560s. It burned down shortly after. A new one was built ... and then it burned down.
The church has succumbed to flames six times, the last in 1764. The seventh version was completed in 1779. Remains of the previous church are cemented into the stone of the new building. Yes, stone. Maybe not such a bad idea, as East Fredrikstad Church is still standing. Open for visits by appointment with the verger
