As they grow older, they begin to have plays, and to celebrate the Greek independence on the 25th day of March, the schoolchildren have a program. Greek Independence day is celebrated annually on March 25. It commemorates Greece's independence from the Ottoman Empire, which began with the Revolution of 1821 and was finalized with the Treaty of London in 1832. Tarpon Springs was settled by Greek sponge fishers in 1905.
