This part of today's program is a solemn, beautiful, religious pageant, and with more than 500 present of the sponge industry, the members of the Philoptochos Hellenic Society, and the followers of the Greek Orthodox Church, worship while the impressive services conducted by His Grace Archbishop Athenagoras, assisted by Father Karaphillis, followed by the church music and chants of the Byzantine Intonation Choir, dedicated to Professor Anastassiou. This dedication program, which the Philoptochos Hellenic Society perfected, with all details and instruction by, and it became an impressive patriotic and service demonstration, for which the whole spirit of the town gathered, many of who came from Dodecanese Island, Kalymnos, Halki, and Symi, and the Aegean Islands, and brought in with their native customs, dances, dresses, and religious observances. The sturdy, sun-bronzed and weatherbeaten seamen and their modest matrons and maidens with their natural health, charm, and beauty, where their native dialect is sung. Here is one place in the Western Hemisphere where their Hellenic customs, habits, and traditions are lived and practiced even more closely than Greece itself."
