Cuban Americans spoken Ethnography Music Tales Narratives Ybor City Tampa, Florida Hillsborough County

A Spanish story about a bootblack who became a bullfighter, told by Martin Noriega, age 51, of Cuban parentage. He may have learned from the reading of a lectore in the cigar factory. Ybor City, now a neighborhood within Tampa, was settled in 1886 by Cuban cigar manufacturers under the leadership of Vicente Martメnez de Ybor. The cigar companies moved from Key West to avoid unionization of their workers.
