MTV camerawork

This section is supposed to be for constructive criticism, and yet no one is using it .... Oh no!

I got some cool car shots,
and I know people who love "MTV" style camera work and will pay well for it, but I think traditional camera people look down upon it with a fierce vengence.

I was just wondering,,, how many of you all like this clip or not, or any other "MTV style" shots.

Pretty cool stuff, i like that.
But difficult to hold the camera stable while walking around. I ve got a stick for the canon Camera, you hang it around your neck and stick the camera on it, something like a monopod that hanging on your neck.
It looks realy weird when i go for shootings, people look at me, but it helps a lot for moving scenes.

Mark, After watching that I'm trouble focusing. What ever happened to image stabilization? LOL

I didn't like it one little bit but then I am not a fan of the MTV shot. . . . I'm too old and set in my ways. I started feeling seasick after a couple of loops of the car. . . .give me a nice glidecam shot anyday :-)

Thanks for your replys...

Remember though, a lot of buyers (especially advertisers) like clips with a lot of movement even if it is shakey. lol Its the trainwreck principle, it may not be "good" but its hard to look away..... Regardless of whether you liked it I bet you couldnt look away, movement is hypnotic.... MTV has a young audience (with a short attention span) so they do anything to get you to watch. lol :D I have sold other "MTV shots" on here.

Movement is fine but there is too much (excessive) jerks. It looks like it's time compressed (fast motion) and running around it trying to hold it still. For me it looks like an accident versus an attempt at random movement as if walking around it. I don't think a "main" producer would go for it, it might sell for internet use. I actually found it hard to watch the entire clip even though it is very short. Watching it again was not what I would have done. So, just for me, not my style, but I'm sure others will like it and it may indeed sell. Hope for the best. Heck when I go back and look at a lot of my clips ... I really don't like them and some of the worst sell LOL.

I hope this was the type of comments you wanted. Constructive but not destructive or personal was what I was trying for ;)

Actually I think it was pretty darn good! This is the new style, and not just MTV anymore - look at teh transitions of shows like Boston Legal, Saving Grace, CSI yada yada yada - they are all going in this direction. Top rated shows are starting to expiriment a lot more with this type of shooting. Radical - crazy and somewhat journalistic - there even was a movie that made people seasick recently that was shot this way only - I think it was called "Cloverfield". Remember, this is a very subjective process and not everyone will like certain styles. But I think there is such a market - and just to make you all barf - I submitted my "action" clip for week8's contest. :)https://www.pond5.com/zh/stock-footage/116055

i think also that there is such a market, but will they buy that stuff from stock sites?

Vader,Your clip looks like a cameraman on speed. I doubtful we'll ever see some thing like it on network TV. Sure maybe quick cuts for an opener of a series but not in the main program. Youtube and MTV that's another animal.

Yes Don :)
I want you all to be totally honest, if you hate it or love it and say why.

Both of these clips (of mine) are similar speed and style, and they both sold, one for 40 and athe other for 30, (even though there were similar alternatives that were made at a slower pace)
