4k sold with price lower then I set it

sharplaninac 15 Feb 2020 16:27
Hi everyone

If I set my price for 4k footage for example 159 usd, how can it be sold for 108usd?

What is the purpose of setting my own price if pond5 can set price as they wish?

They can do discount on their part of share if they agree to this, no problem with that, but if they want discount on our share then they should ask us first before every single sale if price is lower then it was set.

That's how you get trust if you want to be reliable.

best regards

just make sure in your settings not to be part of the discount ( un tick it )

I've emailed support about this exact issue, still waiting for a response.

@cinerog Hi, thanks for answers. if you talking about OPTIMIZED MARKETPLACE PRICING it was already un-ticked.
@stopped_clock please share your answer when you get it.

Literally just got a response! maybe they do read the forum posts?!

"Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to our Customer Care.

Depending on the market prices of each region, the price shown to a buyer might be different than to a buyer from a different country.

For example, the 4K version of your clip 74542901 costs at the moment $109 when it's purchased from UK and it shows a price of $159 when the buyer is from the rest of Europe.

The goal here is to figure out the optimal price point of 4K content in our marketplace for each country (or region). What we learn with it will help us to make recommendations to our artists and help them to make the most revenue.

We hope that this information is useful for you, as always, we're happy to help if you need support with any technical issues or questions.

Kind regards"

wow... I assume you also dont have discount option checked?

It looked like its against contributor agreement, but because of these two parts:

"we will have discretion to offer discounts as part of special promotions or to customers who we believe will make volume purchases or commitments or to help secure additional revenue on your behalf;

we may temporarily or in select markets charge higher or lower prices to test pricing levels in an effort to maximize sales or revenue on your behalf;"

on Part 3 Pricing, they can put any price for example: 2 cents per 5k+ video download. Set your own price doesn't matter, checking out optimal marketplace pricing doesn't matter.

This is worrying.

one simple thing can make it good for everyone. Pond5, just put "make request for lower price" option. contributors get automatically e-mail and price requested from buyer, so we can choose do we wont to sell our video or not with just one click. Buyer get fast response and that's it. One photo stock site is doing it so...

we can set our minimal price so we don't get spammed. If someone is selling video for 90$ and requested price is 75, maybe contributor will sell it it.

Country based prices is something very close to being illegal in EU. (I know UK isn't there anymore)

Common sense would dictate they need the owners consent to devalue his/her content surely?

I just emailed support with the same question: My $60 clips (3 in the last week) are sold with $2.66 (yes, that's TWO dollars) and my revenue share is ONE dollar and 17 cents.

Is this even legal without our consent?

I did not receive an answer to my Support email but just noticed that there are 3 more options in addition to the OPTIMIZED MARKETPLACE PRICING that mention "incremental opportunities." I assume all these mean clips can be sold at any price - and I just unticked them all.

I hope this will take care of the subpar discounts. I'll see what Support replies.
