Almost there buying the Sony RX10 which shoots 1920 x 1080 but I have the option to buy cards.
They range from 4-32 GB (class 4)
And 8-64 MB (class 10)
There are also options for sandisk extreme and Kingston for sillier money. I just want a card that does the job. Nothing fancy.
If anyone can advise the best type and size for mainly video and some stills without running short I would appreciate it. I have no idea how much memory video takes per min etc.
Cheers.

It probably depends on the bitrate you intend to shoot at. I've been using Sandisk's Extreme and Ultra cards Class 10 for HD. With new cameras and probably some 4K coming up, I also have to buy new cards. From what I've read, Sandisk sets the benchmark for SD cards, but they are relatively expensive.

So roughly what would say an hour of Hd recording take up on a disk?

With a 32GB card I could shoot about 3 hours of HD footage in AVCHD, so that's about 10gb per hour.

Thanks. That's great. Less memory taken up than I had thought.

Yes, AVCHD is a fairly compressed format. Be sure to check the file format your new camera will record in. Less compression means bigger file sizes.

3 hours for 32 gig seems right. I have the FS700 and with AVCHD I get 1.5 hours on a 16gig cad.

Don't get the class 4. Get the class 10 and have more confidence.

What is the difference in classes and what does it mean ?
