The cost of 4K or GH4

So I have the Panasonic GH4 ($1699) and I bought the 12-35 f2.8 on sale ($949) to have a high quality lens to give 4K the best chance. I'm super happy so far after my first 4K shoot, I have also done my first studio still's shoot and like the quality of the photographs, SS took my photo so it passed the noise test! My wallet continues to take a bashing however, I tried editing the 4K footage with Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12, wouldn't do it, the templates are not there and you can't set them up, so I bought the upgrade to Movie Studio Platinum 13 ($50 upgrade), which will do 4K, clicked on the downloaded files to install, computer says no way, not with Vista!!! So crack open the wallet for Windows 7 ($70). Also I cannot open the stills RAW files yet so have bought Lightroom 5 ($149), but have not installed it yet as I'm working through the install of the other software and having to back files from my PC to external hard drives to find space for Windows 7.

So don't just count on the cost of a 4K camera there are other costs you might have to find.

I am planing to upgrade to Sony Vegas Pro 13 Edit they have an offer right now.

My worries are those people that sell 4k $10 clips just because they want to see a sale.

I agree with you, the only comfort I have is that I have sold here on P5 since 2008 HD clips between $50 to $60 selling very consistently even though $5 and $10 clips are available, as of now I have not decided what price for my 4K clips yet, what do you think a price point should be?

If SS is $299 then I'll go for $199 here.

Normstock,

4K -- Not less than €229- :)

cinec, why would you post them here for 199 if they are selling on ss for 299. I have all mine set to 299 for now, while ss has that high of price. Why undercut yourself? And I know that you might be looking at take home, i.e commission, but it still doesn't make senses.

I`m leaning towards the SS 4K price, only time will tell if this is a commercial price that customers are prepared to sell at.

@Dapoota - When I match my prices HD to SS here, my sales go down in P5 so maybe the same behavior may apply for 4k. I'll make my decision according to what Spotmatik sets his price to.

I think I'd follow a larger company like SS than 1 person. I know spotmatik has a lot of work, but he's not shutterstock :-)

He also flies around in a helicopter with a RED and then charges $69 for the clips. I don't think I'd wanna follow that pricing. Great port/concepts, high skills and execution, and obvious numbers advantage, but I shake my head at his pricing.
