Editing footage software

Can anyone please tell me a good, if possible free editing software for HD video please. I tried to play a small sample from my camera in windows 7 and for some reason it refused to play it. I have a 1 year old PC so it shouldn't be a problem. I have Lightroom 4 which played the video so my PC can handle it.

Download a Magix Movie Edit Pro "PLUS" Trial version.
This is the best consumer produce of all the rest. (IMO)
You can even make Full 4K editing at a very attractive price of 80 pound, plus they give you 9€ couple at the front page. I have nothing to do with Magix, just a user. I am tempt to buy it for it is easy to edit, compare to Ae6 which you have full control but click many different correction and effects. Sometimes it is very good, but for video stock you don't need so many correction, but just cut and render.

I already have magix Extreme Photostory slideshow but don't think it was £80. Thanks anyway, will look at that.

"magix Extreme Photostory slideshow" has nothing to do with Video.

Magix Movie Edit Pro "PLUS" Trial version cost you NOTHING.

Just checked Lightroom 4 and it can trim video. I just need something now that will do slow motion.

Thanks. Will have a look at that. I am using windows 7 and yet when i try to play an AVCHD file windows media player says it doesn't recognise it so I can't play it.

Just tried it and it doesn't support the AVCHD files my camera produces
