Yeah very cool....so far they haven't offered it kitted out with the X5 or X5R cams, just the black X3 (which is a compromised long-GOP cam that is kind of a bummer in a few ways)

The potential is great if they sell it with the X5/R cams, as the lenses offer different FOV. I'm not buying until they do ... I already have two X3 cams ... not gonna pay money for those again!

I only think the price is a bit high.
A Beholder cost you $299, 4K Sport camera another 299, so 600$. A bit expensive for nowadays, so many camera are out there already.

I bought one this morning. This is an amazing tool. Its so small and is perfect for always keeping on you in a backpack, also great for shooting events, sports, weddings. This thing is a game changer. This would be the only camera I take on a road trip, even with its wide lens. Of course the idea of interchangeable lenses is cool, but the way the balancing point is designed you'll never get an 85mm lens on there, forget about a 200mm. You're always going to be relegated to the world of the wide angle.

Pat - the difference being you have to tune a Beholder and they (so far?) don't have remote control via tablet/smartphone, which is a great thing for us wanting to stick it in places out of reach, and the DJI stuff - simply works.

Sky - well you lucky rich kid ... so you are saying a m43 sensor would not make the difference at all, and would simply what, toss the X3 it came with once you get a X5, or would you bother getting an X5? I ask because you are good at what you do and pro, and "in the know" ... is it worth it? Lenses notwithstanding, the sensor itself should make for a better image... I just cannot stomach having three X3's lying around ...

Just heard from "a source" that the Osmo will be available sans camera. (soon)

Also - the I1 (X3, et al) cams will work on Osmo, but not vice-versa. This is good news.

I am now saving pennies for an X5 and an Osmo. If I don't lose the X5 to an unfortunate event in the air, I'll use it on the Osmo. At least in the meantime I https://d15iwyodqv1bjv.cloudfront.net/images/button-postreply.gifcan always use my spare X3 on the Osmo if needed, but it's not as cool cuz it's white, not black, but that's what Sharpies are for.

haha, rich kid, not even. I just invest my money into gear because it pays me back way faster than the banks.

I don't mind the X3 - in fact looking at the lens selection for the X5 they're all fairly wide angle - like I said before you'll never be rocking a big telephoto on there the way the gimbal balances that camera. Most likely in future incarnations, but not now.

I'm an enormous fan of gimbal technology, ever since the movi was announced years back I knew this was the future and as with the Ronin - I picked that up on day 1 as well and haven't looked back. This is a great solution for jobs where the Ronin is too cumbersome or heavy. It's a great swiss army knife camera.

Same here ... but sad thing is that in many cases I've made just as much if not more money with the old gear as I have the new .... the slowmo eagle being the outstanding exception.

Sometimes the X3 is magic ... but other times the flicker drives me nuts (like in trees, rocks, tundra, you know...what I shoot) I can only hope the X5 doesn't have the same "drop B frame" codec.

E-gimbals are freaking insane awesomeness. I own maybe 5 various ...most of which work nicely until you attach them to an airframe or a car ... which is what I like to do. The Inspire 1, strapped to my VW roof with bunjis and magnets, worked great for smooth POV shots (would have been better could I have locked the yaw axis) and I can only hope I can do similar with the Osmo ... the question being "Can I strap it to vibrating vehicle and get great results?" and also "Can I control pan/tilt" via the app like the Inspire 1 X3?"

Gene,

You are asking too much for small price. LOL

I wonder how heavy this Osmo can hold? I like to use it for my light-weighted Panasonic LX100 (over 200gm). Beholder is a MUST to have in the near future. I am saving cents for this.

This month is BME.. :D
Mizamook 9 Oct 2015 08:23
Can you monitor remotely with your Beholder? How about control pan/tilt remotely? How about have integrated perfection?

I've got several other gimbals .. they can hold anything from a gopro to a Sony NEX, etc. Total PITA to tune/balance. For walking around, no problem ... harder challenges not so fun.

What I'm asking is not small price ... it would be more like $2800 all tolled ...
