I personally was wondering if P5 would accept 360Vr files if they were animations and not video. But who of you out there are starting to learn something new to go in this direction? I am a techno geek, so this is fascinating. Let me know your thoughts

Starting to do more research now P5 has published their specs for footage

There are 2 major points to think about it:
1) What will you shoot with it and is there a market request for your content?
2) Which 360° cameras are available in the moment.
So for the first point i am skeptical for myself. I think it's great for outdoor sports activity or if you are a drone operator and live at interesting places where it's allowed to use drones. For other sport events as P5 don't accept sports footage it's no lucky investment. So which other themes or topics of footage will be asked?
Available interesting cameras in the moment are rare and expensive. It's just a starting market and within this year some more gear will become available. So i see in the moment no need to hurry up and buy any 360° camera. It's all too new and without a major plan what to shoot i won't waste money only hust 4 fun.

When I first heard about Pond5 being interested in 360 footage a month or so ago, I started researching and creating AE templates. I'm primarily focusing on logo animations. I should have one out for submission within the week, and another in a couple weeks.
My initial research had me creating and testing equirectangular resolutions of 12,288 x 6,144 Pixels, since that's what will give TRUE 4K resolution within a 120 degree FOV. It's a strain on the computer however, and for now I'm going to stick to 3840x1920 for now.
Once the market changes with VR devices being purchased more, I'll consider creating higher-resolution templates.

So what i found till now, the cheapest camera for professional use costs nearly 2000 USD. There are some cameras for around 500 USD on the market, but these have low resolution and the stitching is visible very strong.

Norm - where abouts did they post specs? I emailed support 3 days ago about this and got a reply suggesting they didn't really have any specs yet.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I was thinking weather and severe weather might be good for VR, thinking the storm chasers down in the US and other places could do well with VR.
I suspect gaming will be where it first takes hold, got a flyer for a new business opening up soon here in Waterloo Canada.

I suspect next year everyone will be shooting VR, maybe I will skip 4K altogether.

I hoping all the extra work involved with producing VR will put the mainstream off producing it, but as technology improves the whole thing will get easier.
Right now working with 6 cameras, delicate stitching and rendering is very time consuming!
