Canon 5D battery grip

Gives a larger area to hold the camera plus camera controls at your finger tips for vertical shooting.
And you can use AA'a

I used to own a battery grip for my Nikon N-90s (remember film days?)
Loved it, so I'm getting one of these too.

Hey Jake, do you have one? Does it read the "smart" 5D MKII batteries? It looks good. I've seen Walmart is selling a few difference Canon ones but not for the MKII yet and their prices were also about the same. Have you had any problem of running a battery out of juice yet. Seems like a battery lasts a long long time but having a better grip would be great. It might also help balance the camera when a big lens is added.

No, I don't have one yet. But I found this out from a 5D forum I'm on where a guy there did buy one and said the build quality is great and using AA's the camera shows battery life. It will work with the Canon smart batteries to show battery life.
Using two of the Canon batteries inside the grip will last longer than AA's but that is understandable.

The last shoot I was on was the first time I ran the battery completely out, and that was after about 3 hours of shooting. But there wasn't any problem with the battery after that.

Can you connect to it an external power supply, like in the original Canon grip? Can you please ask your friend? Thanks.

Did anyone ever get one of these? I am looking for a grip for my Mark II for longer battery life.

I saw Adorama sells these http://www.adorama.com/ICABGE6AP.html?searchinfo=canon+battery+grip for the 5D2 and 7D, the reviews seem great. I think they are the same ones as on Ebay. I'm looking to get the 7D version....free shipping too!

I thought of getting one but actually, I have two batteries and never ran out of power during a shoot.
Also the battery grip wouldn't fit on my shoulder mount or while using the follow focus. So I decided to not get one.

I would get one for still shooting, the vertical shutter release is worth it. I'm in the process of selling my Nikon stuff.
