4K for stock video is future proofing your clips, shoot 4K deliver 1080p until 4K becomes popular then deliver 4K versions.

If I had my own 4k camera I would upload both resolutions and charge 4 times more for the 4k version simple as that.

Don you're making the assumption that very few households view TV via air broadcast. Fact is that there are many rural communities across this country that still rely air broadcast signals for news and entertainment as they have no cable, fiber optic cable nor can they afford satellite. Another fact is everyone that has a television in their homes is watching that programming in highdefinition but only 59% of those households are watching those programs on a HDTV set. When polls are taken on who is watching TV and on what type of media they tend to be from urban/suburban areas. But keep in mind that there are many across this nation working for $9.00 or less both full/part time that cannot afford these luxuries.

Hurray for FREE TV !!! and my old Sony Trinitron !!!

...... I seriously think that uploading both sizes is a good business decision.

When I was doing TV repair some years back I tried to pickup 25" trinitron by myself and it pinned me right to the floor.

Not to be argumentative to you Jason, cause no one can win and there is nothing to win anyway. It sounds like you are saying it makes more sense to upload SD content than HD or even 4K since more people are watching SD content. The only fact that matters is HD or 4K can easily be down converted to SD for everyone's enjoyment. I still own the first cabinet furniture TV I bought long before tabletop, flat screens or even a dream of HD. I can watch HD broadcasts on it in SD quality. You are right about rural communities. I live in one. It was settles in 1859 and has never had more than 1,000 people. Most of the people here are not well paid small farmers or they have to drive 60 plus miles to find a halfway decent paying job and then many of these are in the coal mines or as prison guards. When the USA went digital by law a few years ago the translators and repeaters on the mountain tops in rural areas took more than a couple years to be upgraded so people could have over the air TV again on their old TVs. HD or 4K works for everyone today, the market for SD only stock or projects have limited value. Of course there are a lot of SD content sold because of value, internet or smart phone use. At the end of the day, HD or 4K is and will continue to have much greater value today and in the future. In 50 years when we are all eaten by worms 4K will look ancient.

No ones being argumentative just pointing out some facts. Who said anything about SD content?? The statement I made was that only 59% of household own a highdefinition television and the rest are watching over the air HD programming on perfectly good analog sets through digital converters.

If U.S. Congress gets their way and eliminates air broadcast stations in favor of cable/satellite there will be many urban and rural households that will be unable to afford the luxury of television. As it stands right now cable and satellite companies are loosing subscribers due to high prices.

ok, no problem.

I would like to make a note about antenna reception vs cable. I get far superior imagery via air than i ever did over cable. Specifically in the HD channel delivery. So Don, you may be off a bit for certain regions of the US. Not just rural, but cities deliver gorgeous and most of the time a cleaner digital signal via air than on cable or sat.

In 50 years I'll be 96 and have a 10K GoPro mounted on my walker for nursing home stock videos.
