So going from dark to bright won't make it change?
Sometimes I do find if I set the iris in the shadow and move to a point where there is some bright and some shadow in the shot pressing the iris won't change anything.
I think the camera uses the entire sensor to average the shot depending on which mode you have it in. (film or video)
It would be good if it had a spot metering mode.
I've been using the iris button to quickly get the shot close and then manually adjusting until I start seeing zebras then back off.
I have my zebras set to 100
Interesting about the autofocus, that's kind of what I heard, some lens its extremely slow, some doesn't work at all.
Mine is one that doesn't work at all.

I think the focus is hit or miss, it does work on the 20mm lens maybe because of the f1.7 but it is slow but does not hunt around like Philip Bloom showed in his review. All in if you want a jacket pocket camera then the 20mm does that for this camera. I'm also going to be using an 11 inch magic arm that has a small clamp for working without a tripod. All those crappy table top very small tripods that fit into the palm of your hand now have a real purpose with this camera. I'm going on a trip to Europe hitting six cities and will use some of these supports when lugging a full tripod is out of the question, I will be taking the full road show of equipment but can see sometimes just wandering around with the BMPCC.

Tested the pocket camera with my Marshall monitor.
Peaking, zebra and guides show up.
You can turn that off if you want so the HDMI can be connected to an external recorder.

Ok, time for no BULL. The new phase is over, the new toys are bought. With the 4K coming soon (maybe), is the Pocket really worth it as far as quality over 5D MK III? Not looking at it being smaller, easier to carry, more undercover etc etc ... just actual eyes on video comparison. So compared to the Canon 5D MK III and Pocket video it there a "eye" visible difference. I've seen articles on both sides. With everything being equal is there a measurable quality difference as far as a buyer is concerned?
So those who actually have the Pocket what do you say. Those who have read the same articles and reviews as everyone else ... sit this discussion out. Is the clip a noticeable quality improvement or just a new toy?

Bottom line....
10 bit 4.2.2 ProRes 220 mbps with 13 stops of dynamic range isn't a toy even though its in a small package.
How could that even come close to comparing to a DSLR at 24mbps 8 bit 4.2.0 footage? Even with the hacks, it doesn't compare.
If you look at the video at 100% you will see a difference.
The difference I see right off is no color banding in sky shot or other shots with bright colored walls etc.
Now is it worth it as that 4K camera will come out soon? If that is a one or the other question, then I would wait.
But for $1K it's not even a question for me. I see using the pocket camera for some shots where I need a small camera. (steadicam, car mounted camera etc)
And when the 4K comes out I'll get that. But I'm waiting to see what other companies will come out with at NAB.
The other thing is post processing. Since these cameras shoot a very flat video, there is more time involved in editing.
There certainly won't be any uploading right from the camera.

Ok ... ok .... ok .... just bought it with the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 Lumix II Aspherical Lens. Since I've been Canon for so long no idea on what lens to start so grabbed this one. This was the last camera at Adorama. I can't help it ... had to chase the newest toy.
Thanks Jake ... you were supposed to talk me out of it.

To add, I'm going to sell my 7D
I'll keep the 5dMKII for photos and for occasional video but mostly it's been replaced by the pocket camera.
One caveat to the Pocket camera vs. the 5dMKII or 5DMKIII is low light.
If you need something for very low light the Canon will win. But I've already shot some low existing light stuff and a little noise reduction makes it look great as you still have that dynamic range.
Even an underexposed ProRes video will edit very nicely without falling apart.
So I'm very happy.
