GH4

Thanks for your initial thoughts on the camera - sounds very promising.

This guy has similar experience and also usually uses the C300.

Just can't seem to make it a hyperlink - don't know why.

The menu on the GH4 for a non Panasonic user is quite the discovery, getting to 96 fps took me some while to figure out, have had to read the instruction book over and over, maybe it's age creeping up on me! But let me say the size and external controls I love, with the 12-35 fitted it's minature in comparison to the 5D MK2 with 24-70.

Normstock: The big question was whether the 12-35 was up to the job of UHD - so really looking forward to your opinion on this minature combination ;-)

About the lens.
This is how it was explained to me and it sounds about right.
. If the lens looks sharp on the 16 megapixel photos from the GH4, then it will be great on 4K video which is only 8 megapixel.
That 12-35 lens is an extremely sharp lens. I was using it on the BMC pocket camera until I sold that camera.
I'll probably get another for the GH4

Well the Sony A7s might blow this away as it also does 4K and will be full frame.

The A7s is an interesting camera, but we don't even know a price point yet. Plus, you need the $2K Shogun to even record 4K. I'd rather have the smaller sensored GH4 and the ability to record 4K internally. Plus, with the GH4, you'd still be able to export 4K via HDMI to the same Shogun if you wanted higher quality 4K.

The real advantage, like you mentioned, is the full frame sensor.

I'm curious what this camera will cost. I'm guessing $2,500.

James is right and here the overview about 4K.

For times when the high quality 50 Mbps XAVC S Codec is not enough the a7S is able to output uncompressed UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at a 4:2:2 color depth over HDMI to compatible third party recorders. Or, if recording internally to a memory card the HDMI can output 1080p at 4:2:2 for external recorders or HD monitors that don't support 4K inputs. The full list of supported HDMI output signals is:

•3840 x 2160 (30p/24p/25p)
•1920 x 1080 (60p/24p/50p)
•1920 x 1080 (60i/50i), YCbCr 4:2:2 8-bit/RGB 8-bit

A7s is going to be about $3000 I think they said, plus the shogun another $2k. It's going to be a whole different camera compared to the gh4. GH4 is entry level 4k, low bitrate codec, that takes great videos and can be an amazing camera in the right hands. For the price it is amazing. With the shogun it will probably be comparable to the A7s, but just not great in low light. So you have to decide is paying double the price for the camera worth it...

$1800 it will be by this

$1,800 would be a great price for that camera, if it's true. Great product at a nice price.

I was reading somewhere that it may go as high as $4,000. I think that's a bit high and I doubt Sony would price this camera at that price point, especially with the GH4 at $1,600.
