GH4

All you fans of the A7s, it's now available for pre-order. Price: $2,498 (My guess over on page 12 of this thread was $2 off; I would have been a loser if this was The Price is Right).

"Probably help to read the manual wouldn't it. Check page 204".

This is probably the PDF version, as the print manual only has 131 pages.

You probably can't turn off the audio completely, but you can lower the level to -12dB on page 5 of the video menu. Not sure if that will essentially "mute" the audio, but if it did, you'd still have an audio track, albeit a silent audio track.

Your method of inserting a dummy mic cable in might be the best solution.

For those interested if you have problems with your GH4s the turn around time from sending to receiving my GH3 from the McAllen, Texas service center was 2 weeks. I paid shipping via Fedex they paid shipping USPS 3 day priority mail and was charged nothing for repairs.

What problems are people having?
cinecameratv 17 May 2014 14:04
@ODesings I have read many threads of problems with GH3's and they are basically 2. Dust/particles under the anti-aliasing filter or over the sensor which is out of reach and that the tilt screen becomes loose. In my camera I had problems with dust under the antialiasing filter. Up to know I have not read of any problems with the GH4. An unimportant issue is that you always lose the eyepiece. you always need a spare although the EVF looks better without it.

When preparing GH4 4k files for Pond5 rather than re-encoding out to photo jpeg couldn't you just upload trimmed .mov native files from the camera which would be much smaller?

mark,

That is a good idea, I did that with my Canon compact (MOV h264), edited/trimmed in camera, loaded in PC, renamed it and uploaded to P5. It save lot of work and electricity.

If you use the wifi function and set it to record 20 seconds, you may not even have to trim in camera.

Good suggestion about the wi-fi. What I am currently doing is copying video files from the camera card to my hard drive, opening with mpeg streamclip, trimming, and "save as" which does not re-encode the clip. I am finding that a 16 second 4k file is about 1/3 the size compared to encoding to photo jpeg.
