GH4

Normstock,

Today I had a chance to physically touch the GH4 and 12-35mm and 7-14mm in a shop (Messe inside a shop), both lenses are quite small compare to the body. The body can be a bit smaller and lighter, LCD should use the whole area of it. IMO

I am waiting my camera to be deliver... Perhaps in mid of June.

Thanks James, good to hear that your GH4 footage edits well with your Mac. I've always used Windows PCs and laptops, so that's probably another thing to consider when buying a new laptop. Although it shouldn't take that long to learn how to work with Apple products.

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro and use FCPX and Compressor, the GH4 4K play without hesitation and looks fantastic on the screen. With Compressor I get a large selection of codecs to choose from.

Pat, I find the Panasonic lenses so small they are almost toy like, the 12-35 is my favourite lens so far, I will probably get the 35-100 as well. Glad to hear you are getting one, I will be interested to hear your thoughts. I do like your hyperlapse clips.

Great to hear that Norman. I suppose it will run nicely with Premiere also (thinking of using their Creative Cloud after buying a new laptop).

By the way, have any of you come across audio issues with the GH4? I ran into this article when searching for a good external microphone, and it bothered me a bit:

It seems the buzz he is talking about isn't actually recorded, but can only be heard when using headphones during recording. If that's the case, it's probably not that big of a deal.

Stef, if this is the case, supposing you have a real buzz during shooting. How will you differentiate the recorded buzz from the virtual buzz in real time?

I have not had an issue with the buzzing myself, but I use a high-end pair of headphones with a tip-ring-ring end that doesn't overlap in the headphone jack.

Wideweb, what I understand is that he hears it in his microphones, but that it doesn't get recorded to the SD card. Honestly, the article confuses me a bit. What kind of microphones do both of you use, or do you think the built in audio is sufficient for some type of stock?

I don't own the GH4. Just couldn't figure out why noise can be OK unless you intend to delete the sound track.
Good relevant audio can help sell clips, unless it is copyrighted music.
