Might as well do the "final" outcome report on this issue with the lens, (18-200 kit zoom) the idiots at Lifetime Service. Apparently, they did not get the memo. The verbiage I used must have been somewhat confusing. I sent the lens in so they could clean the smudge/foreign matter that somehow got behind the outer glass and was resting on the lens element proper, causing a visible smudge. I wanted this cleaned out. There were no other problems with the lens.
I finally got the lens back. The paper that was sent with it indicated that the "Lens would not focus, sent back to Sony for repair/recalibration"
What?
Yeah.
In other words, since apparently these companies have no skill at A) Reading B) Listening C) Ascertaining problems D) Repairing the problems in house then that backs up the wisdom of dealing directly with the manufacturer if at all possible.
And finally, somehow, although the lens is functioning fine, there is STILL foreign matter in there, at least it is not messing with the image (although I suspect it is only a matter of time...) Did they sneeze when reassembling?
