Gene,
When you say you render temp files uncompressed, what codec are you using? AVI?

Yep. Not uncommon for some of my intermediate files to be 30-60GB

That's a big file :-)
Don't hurt my feelings and make fun of that fake prores. I drink Dr. Thunder and it tastes just as good as Dr. Pepper.

If my 4K footage was any sharper I would have to blur it when using Miraizon.

Take your rendered file and drop it in a track aligned under your original. Look at the screen. Turn off the original. See no difference? You must have a different Miraizon.

I've done it a few times. I don't see it unless I go to 400%, and it's BARELY noticeable unless you click back and forth a lot.
What type of clips are you doing it on? I've tried many, and none have given me detrimental results.

Have you tried a 4K monitor. My good HD monitor really does make 4K look softer. With a good camera and a good 4K monitor I just don't see any softness. Like I said if they were any more sharp I would need to soften them. No way would I want them to be any sharper. I've said it before, anyone using an HD monitor to process or curate 4K footage is doing themselves a disservice. If you can afford a 4K camera, a fast enough computer to process the clips then you can afford a 4K monitor to see what the camera captured.

Anything with any kind of detail that is desired as opposed to, say, some textures or snowy/foggy stuff ... I can see it at 100%. It doesn't mater any more really, as it is no longer on my system. Believe me, I wanted to prove it was something besides pickiness, but tests comparing the two ProRes solutions indicated it was NFG on my machine, and using the same footage, on Linus's Mac, rendering to ProRes yielded clips that were not soft, yet, clips before/after viewed on the same Retina 5K as opposed to my own 1080 displays showed the same softness I can't believe either (a) my luck or (b) that you guys don't see it. I saw it with 4K and HD both. Renders from 4K to HD as well.

also, doing some heavy grading is where you see the prores (fake or real) shine over the pjpg.
Starting with my iphone footage, I did over exaggerated colorista correction. Then exported to pjpg and prores. The prores kept the color depth way better, like in the sky and on the posters, I'm not sure what the pjpg did.

We aren't talking about PR vs PJPEG anymore ... are we?
