suggestions to avoid too long pending review

It looks like the model at Pond5 has been everyone is accepted as equals. How they perform once they get in the door is up to the buyers. But there is an element within the ranks of established contributors who keep at this notion of elitism in order to get their work approved faster and at the same time make in harder for others to get approved.

Ultimately new uploaders and those who don't have the same level of sales will be made to feel unwelcome. That may in turn cause them to jump ship and go elsewhere. That serves the intent and purpose of being drummed out of Pond5 so that those who stick around perceive greater potential of profits with fewer cameramen and women recording competing shots. It also means that Pond5 has fewer opportunities to turn a profit. With the word getting out that a select group of people within the majority are able to tell the people at Pond5 how to run their business they may be deterred from even joining Pond5.

So, in their effort to "speed up the approval time" of their clips they are ultimately creating the conditions for a sinking ship. There just comes a time when newbies and others have to realize that bullies exist everywhere, even here.

Communication between us and pond5 is really bad. No comments at all from their side.

Have to agree with what Fract said. I like the free market as it is now, no special people lol. If P5 thought it would increase overall profit, it would already have been done. Line cutters suck, and piss off everyone who waited for the turn. As sellers, we are also the customers of this engine, and to get a major disadvantage like that would be a joke.

Establishing myself as a seller here will increase profits, not being able to do that will not. Deterring new people from contributing will deffinately have consequences on new ideas, skills and creativity.

In the long run, P5 has access to the big picture statistics, and they will know if things need to change.

Quality and not quantity. An idea could be to assign everybody with a quota, i.e. of 5 videos a month at fast lane. So if I upload 10 videos I would select the best 5 to the fast lane. With sales, quality, etc, etc, the quota could be upgraded (or reduced!) by Pond5.

@simonfilm - this is a very interesting suggestion.
But what is for me depressing, is the absence of Pond5 in the comments... why is this forum called 'help us make better pond5' if never they seems to read or comment? ..... :-(

Hi all,

We're reading but tend not to comment until we have solid answers for you guys. There are a lot of great suggestions in this thread, and others on the site in regards to the pending review times. We're looking through them and seeing what is possible to implement.

As far as improving review times, we're adding more curators and helping to streamline our workflow. We had hoped to have significantly reduced wait times by now, but we've been growing at about the same pace that we've been expanding, so we're trying to find a balance so we can get you guys reviewed and taken care of quickly while still improving the quality of our collection.

So, I know this is nothing new to you guys, but we should be seeing improvement soon. Thanks so much for your suggestions and input.

Thanks for the reply Kennon. In terms of expediting breaking news and editorial footage who is the best person to contact at P5 regarding this, the curators? I saw in previous forum posts footage from events such as aftermath of Joplin tornado was approved quickly.

James.
