Glacial Ice Chunk Isolation

This might belong in the Tech or Inspiration forum...let me know please!

Recently I discovered and collected several intriguing chunks of what I believe to be glacial ice from the shores of Kachemak Bay. This stuff is beautiful! (I believe it is glacial because it certainly floated up from the bay, but is unlike the dingy, opaque, and crusty sea ice also found, and when licked, only the outside is salty...the inside is fresh)

I would like to shoot it both with video and still, isolated, if possible, from as many angles as possible.

I don't know what use it might be put to, but I did find that it can be an interesting compositing element, if for no other reason than to make artistic works.

Any suggestions on how to light/isolate these chunks would be very welcome. Black or white background? Neutral or creative light? How to suspend it? (I was thinking resting it on a long spike, with another above, allowing rotation, then masking out the spikes) I'd like it to be able to be re-sized and placed anywhere in a composition ...

All ideas on how it might be put to use are also requested. Such as:

Global_Focus says:
You know, I'm thinking water running/tricking over the ice would be used in an "end of the ice age" shot! (which I will try but after this shoot, as I don't want to melt it)

I need to hurry though....the weather could turn on me and I don't have room in the freezer!

Thanks!

Here are stills from video, as well as one experimental (over the top) blend from a still from the T2i and a couple aurora photos.... http://mizamook.com/?p=153

Thanks...I hope it turns out. As you know, it's hard to be patient when yer fingers are numb, and I can't work inside for obvious reasons.
