I'm not sure what codec I need to use to make the mov file in Blender. Or do I need to take it into a different program to get it properly encoded.
i'm wondering because blender doesn't support Quicktime and I can't find a place to select photo jpg. It has a quicktime setting but all I get is a blank movie.
If anyone has any links to share please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Anita

Well since no one's answered I'll ask it this way. I can render out the individual photos which is no problem. I also put them in to Flash in their own frames but Flash crashes upon export and my After Effects program is ancient and runs out of memory doing the same thing.
Is there a program out there that can export images to the mov format with the photojpeg compression because the programs I have can't seem to handle it.
Thanks,
Anita
*edit*
Nevermind I forgot I had mpeg streamclip *slaps self*

What are you trying to render? Have you edited movie files inside Blender VSE or is a proper animation? For rendering a Blender scene(animation), render your scene as a series of PNGs. Then import them into Blender VSE and export the sequence as a Quicktime container with QTRLE encoding(that is the renamed Animation codec) or as H264 file, as folllows:
1. Go to render settings>Output>File> Select H264(this only allows you to have quicktime container in the lower Encoding section)
2. Go to encoding and choose either H264 or a Quicktime container(for videos I recomend H264, and QTRLE for animations.
3: For maximum quality set Bitrate, GOP, Rates and Mux to zero(unfortunately the biggest number Blender accepts for a controlable upper limit is 14000 - I hope they will soon fix that)
It is not that complicated as I wrote.
If you edited a sequence in VSE you can render it directly as a movie file using H264 codec.
Blender is a great tool, even though is a free one. The July release is going to be focused on VFX which will make it a real AE competitor. I hope some day Pond5 will let us upload Blender projects.

That's how I do it in the VSE as an image strip just getting the settings right for export have been troublesome. I haven't messed with the bitrate, GOP and Mux at all.
I was under the impression that the preferred compression for animations was photo jpeg which is why I took it into the mpeg streamclip program. Just went through the FAQ and it said their preferred was photo jpeg. This is all sooo confusing.
The July release of Blender sounds very interesting. I have an ancient version of AE (5.5 to be exact nearly 10 years old) and I tried working with a clip I did in Blender and it ran out of memory. So I do hope that some of the stuff that AE can do can be done in Blender. That would be awesome. Uploading Blender projects on P5 would be great.

Photojpeg is convinient codec for it allows small files. The main problem is that it is a lossy codec. For videos shot with a camera, H264 is a better choice. For animations, QTRLE codec(formerly known as Animation codec) is a better choice, because it was designed for... animations, not to mention that it lets you add an alpha channel when necessary.

Oh okay I think I got it now. I'll work on a test animation and see how it goes with it.
I thank you for the insight into it. I really appreciate it :)
