Mike, If you want a small camera to carry in your pocket consider the Panasonic GF2 or the Sony NEX 5, both with a pancake lens. They take stills and HD video and you can change the lens.

I sell lots of SD clips at poind5. Maybe 25% are NTSC or PAL. A Canon HV30 - 40 would be a good "opportunity cam" to have with you on sunny day. At least it produces HD. Seeing as 60% of the work is in the uploading, submitting and keywording it would be a good lesson in the video end to submit SD. But long term you need a camera which produces competitive images. I don't think SD clips are going to compete, unless the content is super unique.
