Tripod and Wind - help!

Film crews often use large frames with a scrim to help cut the effects of wind. The mesh lets the air pass so it does not act as a sail and calms it down just enough so it does not buffet the camera. Something like a 4 x 4 might work unless it is really strong wind or changes direction . It should be possible to make a fold-able frame to make it more compact. You would of course have to be the stand since you probably don't want to lug too much gear with you.

You should shake your fist at the heavens and go, "WHY HAS GOD FORSAKEN ME?!"

I prefer this option, Physics. At least it's the most fun, and depending on my mood, or the scene, I can chose which deities to query, or curse....

Being typhoon-capable would be nice, (see my
Alaskan Storms series...I had trouble even staying on my feet, much less the camera being stable!) but mobility is also a big factor, so scrims are out. In the case I was referring to, I was busy chasing gulls off a sandbar to make the shot, so no-one was around. Just a bit of head vibration was the culprit.

My Vinten Vision Blue system came today.

Haven't wind-tested it yet, but already, I'm (insert slightly messy-sounding term to indicate extreme joy) and I can already say that I'm going to be MUCH happier in many conditions....this thing is awesome!

Everything I've touched so far bespeaks quality, and it even smells cool. Camera is on and perfectly balanced.....can't wait to go give it a whirl!
