Lighting or Fire projecting out of hands

Does anybody know to where I can get a clip of fire or lighting projecting. I want to take the clip and overlay it so it looks like it is coming out a person's hands. I am using Edius 6.5

I'm not familiar with Edius so not certain about it's compositing abilities - such as being able to overlay layers with "screen" or "add" operators etc. That would generally be the route you would want to go to create the effect. There should be a number of lightning or fire effects available in the Pond5 library, I know I've seen some fire effects.
Another possibility is to use a smoke effect (like the rising smoke from incense), recolor it with oranges and reds, duplicate the layer several time with different operators such as "add" and re-time to suit. this would create more of a "stream" of a fire-like substance coming from someone's hands and you would be able to position the layer as needed. Be careful to be very aware of the timing and scale requirements before purchasing a clip though. You need to be able to "see" the comp in your head before you buy.
The best of course is to use a compositing package with the right plugins so you can create effects like this:
