Simple question, what would you buy Canon 5D or Panasonic's AF-101?

The AF-101 has all the cool bells and whistles of a real camcorder (except zoom) but the video is still more compressed than the 5D.
Also, would you want to go the route of using Canon or Nikon lens with an adaptor or the Ziess primes which would add another $5000 for a set of 3
I had one on hold but let it go because of the compression. I'm waiting for what Canon comes out with in the same price range.

Panasonic should have merged the HVX-170.P2 camcorder with the 4/3 system intead of merging it with the HMC150 AVCHD camcorder. IMHO

Thanks folks, so from what your saying I guess the 5D would be the best option. I reckon the AF-101 is really just a glorified DSLR anyway without the stills option.

Hi guys. Just bought a 101 with a thing called an Atomos ninja. Shoots native pro-res (HQ, LT or 4:2:2) at up to 250MB/S on to 2.5| hard drives, doubles as a monitor and solves all my issues with the compression. The image quality is really excellent with Nikon glass. Only reservation is the lack of powered zoom, but then that's the same with the DSLRs anyway.

The I/O capability of the Panasonic make it much nicer for any true video prodution IMHO. You can get an uncompressed signal out and record to whatever you want. If using the SD cards you aren't dealing with the same time restraints on clips, which is great for documentary stuff. I do wish they would have went with P2 and the AVC Intra frame codec though. The cams native compression is a little week I think for its intended market. But I guess they are trying to keep costs down relative to the competition.
I wish the Price on the sony FX was a little more reasonable, that servo zoom rocker would be sweet feature for lower budget indie film applications.
Dont get me wrong I have a 7D and have been pretty impressed with the image versus cost payoff. I know the 5 has overcome some of its initial audio limitations, but still wary of stuff going through mini plug if I don't have separate audio going.
So mainly different tools that are best suited for different type jobs.

I think the big 5D sensor is the feature. I have the Pana GH1and fight a lot with low light. Only sensor size helps in this case. I saw tests with the 101 vs. the successor from my model Gh2. The light capabilities from the GH2 was a little better and that's a fair price for the quality of results. As a Pana user I often have disadvantages. More expensive batteries, less accessories and tools, less lenses available (except of adapter usage - but you loose lot of cam automatics with adapters).
