A big beautiful TV and only SD / HD signal being broadcast. Just like 3D, it will be many years before 4K signals are broadcast at a level justifying buying a 4K TV. 3D has been a total flop as far as TV broadcast but maybe someday 4K will make it.

Yup 3D is a total bust, and the manufactures are scratching their heads trying to figure out what to do now.

Hence, they've gotten so worried that they have instituted a "legal" price protection policy in the marketplace now by using exclusive SKU's so that it's harder for you to price shop them, and hopefully they can keep prices / margins up on HDTV.

The next 12 months should be very interesting in the retail TV set market. I see a 60" Samsung in my future very very soon :)

Well, for the right buyers, and the right kind of people, I could see 4K tv going a lot better than 3D.

First, you don't need silly glasses (as you did with some TVs) and some people like me, really did't like the look of 3D.

Second, you may not get a 4k cable signal, but you can buy content in various formats to view. I think a lot of people would jump on that, even if only a high end market for now.

I do agree that it will be a few years before it is average joe consumer level product.
