Youtube Denied my Claim for Pond5 Music

JJRosewater 3 Aug 2020 16:09
I'm so annoyed.

I uploaded this video on May 6th, 2020. The music was flagged. I disputed it, showing I had clearly bought the music. Now today, August 3rd, I get an email saying

"After reviewing your dispute, INgrooves has decided that their copyright claim is still valid."

and

"The copyright owner might disagree with your dispute. The reason you gave for disputing the claim may have been insufficient or invalid."

What is the point of spend $30 to buy music if I can't use it? I don't get it. If the outcome is that you are allowed to have the video up but can't monetize then why should I even buy Music? I could just use more popular music and have get the same outcome. If used a song from Drake or someone like that, at least I'd understand.

But this? I bought the music for what? Pay the artist for fun?

Am I crazy? Or does this not make sense?

What is the best way to avoid this happening on Youtube in particular? Should information about the transaction, license purchase, etc., be posted with the video in description? I have been trying to find advice on this to avoid the situation mentioned here.

Hey JJRosewater (and others),

The artist is breaking our terms first by making the claim, and second by not clearing the claim after the dispute. Please send us a message to support@pond5.com as wideweb has said (if you haven't already), and include the link to the video on YouTube, the clip ID or transaction ID, and a screenshot of the claim. We'll be sure to reach out to the artist and the content ID company to get the claim cleared.

Winding road, unfortunately there is no way to avoid this from happening at the moment, since these claims are automatic and artists don't realize they're breaking the contributor agreement by making claims. That said, here's what you can do to help minimize any demonetization that can come from claims:

Send a message with everything above to support@pond5.com, and include the company making the claim so we can reach out
Post your video as private/unlisted for the first 24-48 hours if you can, because if a claim is made we can work to clear it before it's live and potentially save any lost monetization
Dispute the claim and include any/all information as possible
Send a message to the artist directly through the site and ask them to release the claim with their Content ID company. You can click on the artist name, go to their artist page, and find the letter icon. Click on that and you'll be able to send them a message.

We understand this can be frustrating, so we'll work as quickly as possible to help get claims removed.
