Regarding Sound Effects...

Are retro game sounds allowed here?
Like Arcade, 8bit, chip tune and things like that.
And do they do well/Is the website over saturated with them?
I had a sound effect rejected, and since they don't give a reason why, I
was hoping someone here could help.

Hey JSCCCT,
We do allow those sounds/tracks here, as long as they're your original works and not copyrighted material! We have several thousand items in our 8 bit music collection, you can see here: https://www.pond5.com/royalty-free-music/tag/8-bit/#1/16/8-bit. We have about 7,000 SFX for 8 bit as well. https://www.pond5.com/search?kw=8-bit&media=sfx#1/32/8-bit
When it comes to uploading, we always recommend searching for what you plan on uploading to see how many results we have, checking out the creative briefs on our contributor portal, and also taking a look at the data & trends, top categories, and buyer requests to see what we're looking for. This can give you a sense of what has a better chance of being accepted, and can help you get files online.
Outside of that, be sure to try and create unique, high-quality content that sets you apart from the rest of the artists. Our curators want to hear something exciting and different, and something that fits the needs of our marketplace and our customers :)
If you have any more questions, please email us at support@pond5.com and we'll be sure to help!

@Ryan
Thank you so much for the advice and insight!
I was kinda lost to be honest, because I upload to another sound website
where my sounds are quite popular, so I had no idea (besides oversaturation) on
why all my uploads keep getting regected.
Will keep this in mind when uploading new sfx.

A month late, but I wonder JSCCCT if you've had any SFX accepted since you posted?
I attempted just one SFX upload but had many more in the works. It was rejected, and when I asked support to give me an idea why (so I knew what to change in future) they told me I would not be able to upload SFX at all unless I could prove (with a link) I was already a "known" or "established" audio creator. I haven't read that as a requirement anywhere in Pond5's guidelines and Ryan didn't mention that in his reply either. I still wonder if there was a miscommunication and the support person who responded misunderstood what I had asked. I can imagine several people having audio rejected yet nobody being told that in fact, nothing is wrong with their audio clips and the problem is simply that you are not eligible to upload SFX at all.
I still hope to upload my own to Pond5, but I'm not going to create hundreds or thousands to put elsewhere just to prove I'm not stealing someone else's work.

@GSfootageUK:
Haha. Sorry, I'm late as well. :')
I'll try to message you this as well because Pond5 doesn't give us notifications haha.
So, from my understanding, Pond5 is extremely strict on what they'll accept as an upload.
So if you, for instance, make a generic "gunshot" sound effect, it's more than likely that Pond5 has a bunch of those already and will reject yours. Even if the sound you make sounds fairly unique and is good quality, it doesn't matter, they WILL NOT accept it.
I have uploaded several sound effects to Pond5, and every single one has been rejected. Nothing was unique enough for them to accept it. As a side note, I've been creating sounds for a while, and also manage a free sound account. My sounds receive quite a decent amount of downloads,
(I believe over 3000+ at the moment)
but it doesn't really matter here.
As you've experienced, they aren't clear on what it is they want precisely.
Sounds are some of the most strictly moderated content on this website, so I think you'll have a tough time if you continue here.
To further prove this, I ended up altogether quitting with sound uploads here, and started posting photos instead. I have yet to have a single photo rejected.
No photos have sold yet though so, it is what it is.
TLDR;
Pond5 is really strict with sound moderation, so you might go a long time with nothing being accepted, in spite of your sounds quality. Also, don't expect any real help, and moderation on all content is extremely slow.
P.S. Would be glad to chat more if you're interested, I check my profile everyday!
