What sells best?

I realize this is a very subjective question, but being a total newbie it's an important one for me.

It's mainly important because my primary interest is video footage captured with drones. So far, this has mainly been landscape, scenery, and suchlike. Well, actually that's pretty much all I've uploaded. I have little interesting in videoing identifiable people, so I guess that may limit me. But how much?

If all you're doing is drone, you have severely limited your customer base. Yes, drone footage sells as establishing shots etc, but to only have drone footage? I guess if you're in a place that is hard to get to so your aerial footage may be rare.

In the stock industry you have to be very diverse in your portfolio to sell well.
So you're asking what sells best? Yes subjective but for me and others its videos with people.
Business, medical, work from home etc.
These days, not only your portfolio needs to be diverse of subjects, but they also want a diverse ethnic people in the shots. People of color, indigenous.

Hope that helps,
Jake

I absolutely agree with https://www.pond5.com/artist/jhdt_productions . It is obvious that the market needs all sorts of clips. A variety of shots means fetching different customers. So far as my experience is concerned sometimes how far your collections look hardly matters rather you really looking for diverse subjects, and topics matter. I have a small profile and I am really trying to make it big but really failing when I see a lacking diversity.
I have to think and rethink the market orientation, needs, and supply.
It's not so easy task but that is a need of time.

So here is the bad news, but it's best to know the truth: when I type in "aerial UK" into the P5 footage search, I get almost 132,000 results. That's your competition. Rank them by "popular" and the trend I see is: mostly cities (wow, watch the laws flying there), famous sites, golden hour, and dramatic weather. You'll need to set yourself apart from them somehow. My random thought based on the prior comments: get your drone close to a diverse couple (maybe even at an historic site), then do a rise and reverse to reveal the location, wide shot. Think like that. It's getting to be a tough market. Have fun, good luck!
