Don and Jake, you have inspired me to continue my work with the HV30 and not purcahse a new camera just yet :-P. But I do want to get some tools to better my video production, and since winter is on its way and I miss the full day of light while sitting at work, I need a method of shooting indoors.
I want to get a light kit , but I am not sure for video how many lights I would need, what type of lights (Continuous obviously) and what brand. Your recommendations are appreciated.
For now I'd like to spend maybe 300-500$.

(Don, Scott took the bait. He's not upgrading cameras so we can sell all the videos, well, Don can sell all the videos...)
Scott,
I bought an old 500 watt movie studio light from a guy on Ebay. I wanted a fresnel type so it can focus and had the barn doors. That was only $50.
It's what I used for this shot

This type lets you be a little more creative.
I just bought this Britek kit which I love because it puts out a lot of light and is portable.

But now I wish I had bought this kit from him that is focusable.

There are the newer type that use florescent bulbs. They use less power and aren't as hot. But more expensive.

Any other inputs on lights? Since Jake isn't as 'bright' as I'd like him to be, I'd take any other recommendations
Actually Jake, those lights seem to be a good deal for $300.

Yes, for a small set there made well and like I said they are portable.
The set also comes with a canvas bag to transport it. Very cool.
I tried the clamp on lights and the shop halogen lights you get at home depot. They were more of a pain to get setup and then you have to have other stands to hold a umbrella or some type of difussion.
These hold the umbrella. Setup time is a breeze.
Nope,I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree, I admit that.

Well, ok ... really can divulge too many secrets, after-all ya'll should know that both Jake and I use lights on all of our videos, especially the day time out doors in sunny weather. It helps eliminate shadows and shiny foreheads.
For video, no idea which is best. For digital photos I have an Alien Bee setup. Flash doesn't work well with video though. Not sure if Alien Bee makes video lights, if they do they would probably be pretty good.

I have a JTL kit for video with three heads.. http://cart.owens-originals.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=931303&trid=1226708717z816852z0a3d084a19285z but not at that price... I got it for around $600 on eBay - this vender is smoking some serious stuff and it is bad. Keep your eye out on ebya for it.. I actually bought mine from a pro-dealer in CA last year for around $499.00 -- same exact kit! I also have a JTL strobe light kit for still shot. (3 heads, yada yada )
