Capturing HDV and getting into Pond5 ?

herman 4 Dec 2008 13:50
I have been shooting some HDV 1080i and have no idea of how to get this footage into pond5.

I currently use Pinnacle Studio 12 which captures the video as .m2v

If anyone can help me with the workflow required to get it into the right format for pond5 it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi, German!

Use the MPEGStreamclip (http://www.squared5.com/) to convert .m2v clip to .mov with following settings:

- compression: Apple Motion JPEG B
- quality: 95% (can be less for clips with many small details)
- sound: No Sound
- frame size: 1920x1080 (unscalled)
- interlaced scalling: checked

These settings work OK for me.

P.S. Read MPEGStreamclip docs what version of QuickTime Alternative should be installed.

Thanks Zygis this works great I used Quicktime with the mpeg viewer upgrade instead of Quicktime Alternative. The file sizes are huge but I guess thats the nature of the beast...

Hi, Herman!

I think on P5 they accept file sizes less than 500MB, but you should check it - it is somewhere on FAQ pages

in HD get used to big files. An average 15 second clip can easily be 450-500 mb. That's just the nature of the game.

They will except some clips over 500mb but normally they should be 500mb or less.
