knock out background in FCP7?

Is there a way in Final Cut Pro 7 to make the gradiated gray background in this file transparent, or some way to achieve a similar result? Thanks in advance!

That's a toughie. Maybe luma key will do it, but since the calendar is also grey, you may have some tedious masking ahead of you.

Perhaps contact the artist and ask for a custom render with an alpha.
