4K is dead! Now on to 6K :)`

The world just keeps moving forward to damn fast. I was just barely getting excited about the 4K fad, but glad I didn't jump on board as patience is a virtue and 6K is gonna clobber 4K by a whopping 2K (hey, I can do math!) - And yes, this intended to be sarcastic humor. But nonetheless: http://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/product-announcement-kinemax-6k/

My humble opinion is that 4K saturation for general consumption is still years away. There will be niche uses (like Netflix, Youtube), but the day where we simply turn on our TVs to watch 4K content as nonchalantly as we watch 1080p today is still some time off. So anything more than 4K at this point is a bit overkill.
I'll leave 6, 7, and 8K to Hollywood.

Let me see if I read correctly it says: "Kinfinity just announced their first 6K consumer camera and the specs are amazing." Consumer camera ???? hahahahahahahaha

I'm waiting to see what NAB has to offer this year. Last year while the big thing on the floor was 4K, NHK had a booth in the back that had 8K with 22.2 sound. I would like to get excited about 4, 6 or even 8K if the distribution infrastructure was there. Considering how much HD gets compressed (at least here in Canada) it is just depressing.

Yup just what the industry needs is another Black Magic type hype, dreams and specs on a camera that is not proven. If an engineer says it can be done then they advertise that it's being built and looks great. Yup, everyone quick, put a deposit on it before it's gone ;)

I think we need to look at things differently - there may never be another 'standard' after HD passes us by. In fact broadcast may not (and probably wont) upgrade past HD for another decade or more - because it isn't necessary. But with visual media becoming more and more prevalent in every facet of our lives, people will find ways to use 4K, 6K, 100K whatever technology.
I love 4K - I've been shooting 4K for about a year now and I've never once mastered anything for delivery at that resolution. I'm still delivering HD - because nobody can watch 4K - but the picture quality behind 4K, as well as the wiggle room you have in the editing room is just a godsend for me. The higher resolution the source the better as far as I'm concerned. Someday we'll be able to do things with video on par with what graphic designers have been doing with photos and their ultra megapixels for years.

Don't get hung up on the resolution. It's the footage that matters. I never think when I am watching something good that I wish it was 4K or more. I just enjoy it because it is good. I am thinking of investing in video (as some of you may already know from my other post) and I certainly won't be affording 4K.
