Video size limit

Hi all,

I am having issues with the export settings in Adobe After Effects: I have mostly 4K resolution timelapses that I want to upload to P5, but when I export them following the requirements here (Quicktime, PhotoJPEG), I have gone down to 85% quality, and my file size is still 1.8 gb, which is a limit value according to the guidelines.

Should I reduce the quality to 75% (the accepted minimum) or am I overlooking some setting?

Thanks in advance!

Can't help you with AE,but the limit is valid only on paper.I upload 4K stuff weekly that exceed 4gb's.

Thanks! I suspected that it was more a reference than a hard-limit, then it is time to upload (I guess it will take a while :) )

I render my photo jpegs at 45% quality, which generates files at approximately 50mb/s, without any noticeable quality loss. The bitrate therefor is approximately the same as the input files, so they look the same. I use MPEG StreamClip.

You are probably taking 50mb/s 4K videos and rendering them at 500mb/s, which makes the file sizes about 10 times larger.

After you render out the file, from windows you can select the file and it should show you the bitrate. If it is larger than the original, then you can use a lower quality setting. This is how I figured out that 45% was the correct setting for my input files.

I think you should go with http://platinumplatypus.com. It will help you a lot because I also faced the same problem earlier then I recover this problem in New York. They will help you to come out of this problem.

45% I do not even render 45% for Youtube. If I remember correctly once P5 was saying - compression quality from 65% to 95% .

45% is nuts, that's not even cell phone web quality compression. ProRes 422 HD is always 100%. PJPEG for stock footage normally I use 92%, I never use less than 80% and never more than 94%. With HD welcome to big file size, really unavoidable to maintain quality that buyers want. For 4K, well get a fast internet and start buying lots of 4 Tb or bigger hard drives.

So process for YouTube or process to sell. HD and 4K are both data hogs.

Try doing any color correcting or grading (which many of our professional buyers do in post) on a 45% clip and it will soon be returned for credit. There is not enough data there to do anything along those lines. Follow the last recommendations that Don (Rekindle) states if you wish for professional buyers to become your clients. Why do you care? Pro buyers typically will spend more for quality. Or as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". :)
