THOUGHTS OF THE NEW BLACKMAGIC POCKET CINEMA CAMERA 4K?

Anybody tested this camera at NAB? It already has a "Best Seller" tag at BH Photo 5 months before launch.

It sure looks like a winner. If it works as good as it looks Panasonic will not be happy ! The specs, RAW video, the design and the _giant_ display for that price is pretty stunning. AF will probably not be much to write about but since its a cinema camera that wont bother the target market.

Problem is it has no evf, no battery, the screen doesn't articulate, (giant doesn't matter if you have to hold it in front of you to frame) and it's still limited to HD for anything over 60p (and it's cropped). Disappointing, rather. It's kinda big, and there are a few other "gotchas" (there always are with any camera). Like the ProRes/RAW recording to external SSD, and CF (you priced fast CF cards lately?)

It's cool, and for the price interesting, but .. by the time you make it into the run and gun camera of your dreams there are going to be expensive add ons and wires hanging off of it ... ugly, and slow to operate. (I really hate cables and crap hanging out of my cameras!) But nice for people who like to tinker instead of shoot. Cool power options, and lots of pro audio this and that, but again, add the cost of all this stuff to your original price.

I'm pretty freaking happy with my GH5 ... no problems shooting 400mb/s video (but only up to 30p) and the high frame rates up to 120 are HD (and compromised like most are) but it's all there, always, and I get the strong idea that it's nothing to do with the camera but everything to do with what I'm shooting and how well I botch the shot. At this level, it's really all there is to it. So I would not run out and trade in your existing camera for it, and I would not necessarily indicate that it would necessarily be better for stock anyway.

@Mizamook - I have a shallow pocket. Wish I could buy a GH5. I will be buying the Lumix DMC G85 because they say it is better in low light than the GH4 (less noise) and because the sensor has 5-Axis Image Stabilization .... or maybe I buy a used GH4 from B&H.
