Sound Design: Sonic Discoveries

As a sound designer I am constantly amazed at the sounds that surround us on a day to day basis, especially from unsuspecting objects . I would like to encourage sound enthusiasts to post their findings of sounds and what their possible use can be. Also, if anyone is trying to create a sound effect but don't know where to start, such questions should be posted here so we can put our heads together in order to find out ways of creating the effect.

To start off, today at work I was running my fingers along the tops of several plastic volume knobs to turn down the sound on a P.A. system. The rubbing motion on the plastic created little squeaks, similiar to a window cleaning squeak, but rhythmically, which creating a sort of cartoon character laugh *squeak squeak squeak* but in the pattern that someone laughs, such as "ha ha ha." I plan on bring my recorder tomorrow and getting the effect, I'll post it here in the near future.

What sounds did you hear/discover/create today?

I posted some boxcars the other day. The train was seemingly miles long, so the boxcars were no where near the engine, just allowing a phenomenal whizzing sound without interference from engine noise. What was even cooler was that there was two sets of tracks with another train with similar sonic properties going in the other direction. The result is something that is really eerie...definitely doesn't need to be used for something as literal as train.

That was cool of you to search for it, I tried to post it here, but I wasn't successful. Post your squeaks when you track them!

That train sound is awesome! - definately scifi alien craft potential there or megalopolis flying car highways!
