n00b with entry level camera question

Hello there,

My apologies in advance if this is one of those questions that's been asked a million times.

I really like the pond5 concept and am thinking about creating some videos. I read through the FAQs and see that pond5 says a 3ccd camera is pretty much mandatory. Would an entry level JVC or Sony 3ccd camcorder be good enough to test the waters here, or would the quality be too poor to be of interest to any potential buyer?

If there is a market out there for stock footage filmed on such a camera, does anyone have any entry level 3ccd recommendations?

Thanks!

Welcome.

If this is all you have to start, then I would go with it.
One thing I have learned, the more variety on pond 5 the better.

I have seen some of the oddest and common clips sale here, and some of my favorites have never been touched. All up to the buyer.

Once you start uploading and get used to the process, render settings, etc. you should upgrade if you can.

I would at least move up to an HDV camera (HD mini DV Tape) if you have the $$$. There is a great one in the Sammy's Camera ad this week for $199.00 called a Canon HV20. Call them from the store number online, they are not on the website.

Right now, all I've got is a 4 year old JVC Everio.....http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/jvc-everio-gz-mg27u/1707-6500_7-31965452.html

Something I just used for recording nonsense....but I was thinking about buying something used on ebay. I don't want to spend a lot of money on something I might very well get bored with after a few months. Would something like this: http://www.panasonic.net/avc/camcorder/hd/global/products/hdc-hs9/ be good enough to get me started?

Yep!, manual controls are the key. There is some GREAT footage from this camera on Vimeo.
